Originally a small cobblestone path built in 1868, after many transformations, Nguyen Hue Walking Street is now regarded as a symbol of Vietnam’s progress and development. It was officially put into operation on April 30, 2015, with a length of 670m and a width of over 60m.
The President Ho Chi Minh Monument Park section (from Le Thanh Ton Street to Le Loi Street) features a 7.2-meter-high bronze alloy statue of Uncle Ho, facing toward the Saigon River. Behind the statue stands a stele commemorating the debut of the Provisional Administrative Committee of Southern Vietnam after the success of the August Revolution in 1945. The park is beautifully landscaped with lotus ponds, two rows of white frangipani trees, and a variety of colorful flowers and ornamental plants.
The Nguyen Hue Square section (from Le Loi Street to Ton Duc Thang Street) consists of a central pedestrian axis paved with 10cm-thick granite, flanked by two lanes for vehicular traffic. The square is equipped with artistic lighting systems, modern musical fountains, and two basement levels housing the monitoring and control center for cameras, lighting, fountains, and public restrooms.
As a vivid and colorful mosaic of unique architecture and landscape, Nguyen Hue Walking Street is not only a destination for shopping and entertainment but also a cultural and artistic hub. It serves as a venue for significant city events, cultural exhibitions, art performances, parades, and street festivals. Over the years, Nguyen Hue Walking Street has become a symbol of the city’s prosperity and development, standing as the most beautiful and modern thoroughfare of Saigon – Ho Chi Minh City.
